Black Lantern Slimer

Ash keeps all of his nerd toys together on a shelf. He has plastic Green Lantern rings, pins, and other plastic dolls. I like rearranging his toys to annoy him, and it usually irks him like I plan. The last time I played with his toys, I rearranged his Lantern rings and put the Black Lantern ring on his Slimer doll’s head because Slimer came back from the dead. Ash actually thought that was funny and asked me to draw him a picture of Slimer as a Black Lantern. I’m not terrible all the time, so I fulfilled his request.

Too Many Boxes

The comic storage boxes in my apartment are breeding again. I asked Ash if he got any new boxes, and he claims that he’s always had 14 boxes of comics. Sure, and we’ve always been at war with Eurasia too.

Ash bought me the 19th set of Mystery Science Theater 3000. This set includes Robot Monster, Bride of the Monster, Devil Doll, and Devil Fish. It also came with a plastic Gypsy toy. Unfortunately, the plastic thing is too big to set in front of the TV with Crow and Tom. I suppose that’s okay because Gypsy only came in the theater once during some horrible Hercules movie.
Monster Robot is a very early episode of MST3K. It had J. Elvis Weinstein as Servo in it, but I like Kevin Murphy better. This movie is a little hard to watch. It’s about an astronaut guerilla that terrorizes a family in the desert.
Bride of the Monster was pretty bad too. Bela Lugosi and Tor Johnson are in this movie, and they are up to no good. The best part about this episode is when Joel and the robots perform Hired: The Musical to mock the short.
Devil Doll is the best episode in the set just because Tom Servo turns into a toaster strudel with great gams! The movie is about a creepy ventriloquist who tries to seduce a young woman, but the skits between the movies are funny. I always enjoy it when Crow mettles with dark forces.
Devil Fish was hard to watch too. It’s about a skarktopus that attacks humans. In the host segments, Mike insults dolphins and electricians, which has immediate ramifications.

Fanboy Rapture

Oh no! The pre-tribulation eschatologists were right! When I got up this morning I saw the evidence that my husband was chosen.
Oh wait, the end of the world is happening. It looks like Ash just left his clothes on the floor yesterday.

Why the Legion of Super of Super-Heroes Annoys Me

The Legion of Super-Heroes irritates me for many reasons. Here is a short list on why I don’t care for them:
  1. Bouncing Boy.
  2. Saturn Girl’s outfits.
  3. The Legion of Substitute Heroes.
  4. The innuendoes regarding Duo Damsel.
  5. Many of the characters have “Lad” or “Lass” in their name, yet none of them wear plaid.

Ash would like to offer his rebuttal on why he loves the Legion of Super-Heroes:

Black and Blue Superman Shirt

I try not to buy Ash t-shirts anymore because I do not believe a man needs enough shirts to go a month without doing laundry. However, I cannot stop others from gifting Ash with super-shirts. Ash particularly likes this blue Superman logo shirt because he saw one of the characters on The Big Band Theory wearing it.

Whenever I get a gift from Ash, 95% of the time it has something to do with Mystery Science Theater 3000. I don’t know if it’s because he can’t think of something else to buy me or if it will keep me busy for a few hour while he sneaks off and reads comic books, but I appreciate them anyway. Volume 18 contains Lost Continent, Crash of the Moons, The Beast of Yucca Flats, and Jack Frost.
Lost Continent features “Rock climbing, Joel.” All I can recall from this episode is that the movie was padded with lots of rock climbing, and that the mad scientists tease Joel about it. At the end of the rock climbing, there are some claymation dinosaurs.
Crash of the Moons was about people crashing on a moon. Yes, it was that exciting.
Tor Johnson made another appearance in The Beast of Yucca Flats. He was a scientist that turned into a monster, and then the movie end with a bunny eating his face.
I really liked Jack Frost in this set, and I’ve watched it more than I would like to admit. It’s a very surreal fairy tale. I’ll admit that I like Grimm’s Fairy Tales, and the popular theme of the good sister gets rewarded while the bad sister gets punished is the plot of this movie. Tom Servo also dresses up as an adorable little girl in this one.

Batman: Under the Red Hood

Ash made me dinner, so I told him he could pick out what movie we’d watch and I wouldn’t complain (too much). Ash decided to watch Batman: Under the Red Hood, which is a cartoon about Batman. It begins with the Joker killing Robin because the fans demanded it apparently. Shortly afterwards, the Red Hood appears and starts killing all the bad guys. One of the bad guys has a creepy mummified head, and Ash said his name is Black Mask. He became a bad guy after an unfortunate incident when he went bobbing for French-fries in the deep fryer.
The big “surprise” is that the Red Hood is really dead Robin, who was turned into a mummy and dipped in a mystical hot tub and brought back to life. Red Robin finagles the Joker’s jail break so he can try to make Batman kill him. In the end, Ash lived happily ever after because I tried to be on my best behavior while he watched it.

Pink Lanterns

Ash pointed out recently that there are no Pink Lanterns, but they are Violet Lanterns. I was surprised because the plastic ring he has enshrined is clearly pink. I might even buy that it was fuchsia, but it is not purple at all. Shouldn’t the company who made the rings have consulted a color wheel before making the product? At the very least, they should have looked at a box of crayons to double check the color.

Free Comic Book Day

I think the shine has worn off of Free Comic Book Day for Ash. This national nerd holiday is the first Saturday in May, but Ash hasn’t made big plans. In the past, he had his route mapped out, his outfit selected, and a strategic plan to get the more free stuff as possible. Perhaps waiting in line for hours between stinky smokers and screaming children for two free books isn’t worth it? Either that, or he just gets all of the free books he wants through the mail.
