Huzzah for Fezzes

Not only did I manage to rope Ash into attending a Renaissance festival with me this year, I got him to dress up, help me with my henna table, and drum too. I made him a costume, but it was the promise of a fez that made him agree to wear it. It also helped that I coerced some of his friends into dressing up too.

All weekend, I kept hearing people yell “Fezzes are cool!” whenever they saw my husband. At first, I wanted to shout back “Don’t encourage him,” but I didn’t want to complain since I didn’t have to work at the festival by myself.

This image was altered to protect the "innocent."

So, if you want to make your significant other attend a Renaissance faire, buy him a fez… or some mead. Mead helps too.

Zombie Walk

Ash just had his birthday last weekend, but he was scheduled to work. So, the day before his birthday I took him to a nearby Irish pub so he could get his fix of fish and chips. (He has been watching a lot of British shows lately, so he refuses to eat French fries anymore.)

Poor Ash. He celebrated the day of his birth by pretending to be dead.
After Ash put in a grueling day of work, he joined me amongst the living dead at an annual zombie walk. It was a benefit for the food shelf, which is kind of sick but it’s for a good cause.

Summer Recap

Over the summer, Ash and I moved to a new apartment. It was shocking how much stuff we had crammed in our previous one bedroom apartment. Ash was pleased to move to the new place because of the second bedroom, which he took over as his “man cave.” It’s full of his comics, which would make it more of a “nerd room” than a “man cave,” but I digress.

I took this picture mid-packing to document my sorrow.
After moving, and unpacking, life just got in the way. Yes, Ash still keeps wasting money on comics and Doctor Who DVDs, but I’ve just been so busy with work and other obligations I haven’t even had time to complain about him publicly lately! Last Sunday was the first time in over two months where I wasn’t obligated to be anywhere, and it was nice!

Anyway, I hope things will settle down after Halloween. This year I decided to be lazy and not make new costumes, but I think I will make up for it by making caramel apples instead!

He’s Not in a Rush

Ash is not the best travelling companion. He takes forever to get ready to go anywhere, but I’m sure many husbands can be like that. My main complaint is the amount of music he has to gather for any car trip. I think he needs one CD per mile travelled. For example, we might only need to be in the car for 2 hours, but he’ll bring along 15 hours of music. Even if we’re just going to grocery story, he needs 5 CDs. I wish I was exaggerating. He doesn’t like to bring a lot of variety either. He will select one band and bring every album he owns by that group.

When he’s driving, he’ll like to say things like, “Hand me the Rush album.” Of course, all of the CD cases are wedged behind my seat under his suitcase, a cooler, and whatever else is in the car. After dislocating my shoulder to grab a CD, it’s always the wrong one. According to my husband, I should intuitively know which Rush album is the correct one.

Often, I will forgo playing DJ assistant and drive so Ash can play with the radio. The tradeoff is I have to listen to Ash’s driving directions, which are just as clear as his CD directions. Instead of “Hand me the Rush album,” he’ll say things like, “You should have taken that exit.”

Batman Detective Comics 872

There’s a Doctor Who joke somewhere in this cover, but I don’t want to be the one to make it.

Two Omega Men

Ash’s habit of buying two of the exact same comic isgetting annoying. I just saw that he has two copies of Omega Men #37. Our apartment is small enough! It’s bad enough that we have a dozen boxes filled with comics clogging up our bedroom, but now I’m worried about how many of those comics are duplicates!

Blowup Wolverine

Ash was very nice and washed the dishes before he went to work this morning, so instead of making fun of him today I will share this picture of an inflatable Wolverine I saw in a comic book store a few weeks ago.

Ghostbusters Air Gun

It’s no secret that Ash loves Ghostbusters. He loves the movies, he loves Bill Murray, his loves his proton pack, and he loves the toys. Fortunately for me, Ash played too rough with his childhood toys and they don’t exist anymore. Fortunately for Ash, he has a friend who was very careful with his childhood toys. Recently Ash and I went to visit a friend who discovered his Ghostbusters Ghost Popper Gun in a box of random junk in storage. After seeing Ash play with the ghost gun for 5 minutes, I could see why none of Ash’s toys survived.

Free Comic Book Day 2012

I almost forgot about Free Comic Book Day because Ash didn’t mark it on the calendar. Ash and I were out of town, and he had to stop at the comic book store. While we were there he spent about a fruitless hour looking for one specific comic. The man working at the store asked us if we’d be back next week, and I stupidly ask, “Why? What’s next week?” He said was Free Comic Book Day and did a little jig. He said that there were going to be Storm Troopers this year. Oh yeah, that’s going to make me want to drive a couple hours for that particular store’s festivities!

Anyway, consider yourselves warned! Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 5th.

Superhero Glasses

Ash’s mother bought him superhero glasses, which he adores. The Green Lantern cup is his holy grail. Apparently Ash doesn’t trust me with his glasses and said I’m only allowed to use the Wonder Woman cup. I think that that’s because he knows that I don’t want to use it and I’ll leave his precious dishes alone! (Guests get use the Bat-Glass at least, but that one’s off-limits for me too!)

More Plastic Rings

For a man who can’t keep track of his wedding ring, Ash certainly has a lot of plastic toy superhero rings! In addition to his Green and various other color Lantern rings, his Flash ring, he also has Legion Flight Rings. Does it help him fly? No. Is he in the Legion? Perhaps. He can be Plastic Accessories Lad.

Tardis Lunchbox

I bought Ash a Tardis lunchbox for Ash. Even though it didn’t come with a dalek-shaped thermos, he likes it. He was a bit disappointed that it is not bigger on the inside.

Dr. HuHot

Ash loves eating a HuHot because it’s an all you can eat Mongolian barbeque restaurant. I don’t mind eating there, except every time we go Ash calls it Dr. WhoHot.

Two Young Justices

Why does my husband need two copies of Young Justice #29? Is it a particularly valuable comic, or did he forget that he owned it and bought it again?

Ghostbusters Toy Helicopter

When my husband was little, he played rough with his toys, none of which survived. Ash still mourns for the loss of many of the toys from his youth, especially his Ghostbusters toys. Ash’s excuse was that he was very young when he had those toys. (He was born the year Ghostbusters was released.)

Fortunately for Ash’s inner child, we have a friend from college who took very good care of his toys. Even better for Ash, this friend’s mom throws away nothing! Awhile ago, our friend brought over some old The Real Ghostbusters toys for Ash to drool over.

Ash was pretty excited to see the Ecto-2, which is helicopter that was featured in the cartoon in order to sell more toys. He had one when he was little, and was overjoyed to see the action figures too. Ash spent a little more time than I’d like to admit playing with the Ecto-Copter when it was unveiled.

Am I Back?

I think I finally have time to mock my husband once again! Between being sick, getting rejected from grad school, and being swamped at work I just haven’t had the time to make fun of my darling husband publicly like I should. I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep, but I think I’ll have time to start writing again.
